Akila McConnell's A CULINARY HISTORY OF ATLANTA
A CULINARY HISTORY OF ATLANTA: An Evening With Akila Sankar McConnell
Tuesday, November 12, 2019 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm at 184 S Candler Street, Decatur, GA 30030

Akila Sankar McConnell is obsessed with sharing the story of Atlanta through its food. She is the owner of the #1 rated Unexpected Atlanta Tours & Stories, which includes Atlanta Food Walks and Atlanta History Tours, to help guests dig deeper into the city's amazing food and powerful stories. An acclaimed food and travel writer, Akila was the food travel expert for About.com and USA Today for four years and has written for Conde Nast Magazine and National Geographic Books. Her book, A Culinary History of Atlanta, tells the stories of forgotten women in Atlanta's history who fundamentally shaped the way the city eats and continues to eat.  One of the most fascinating chapters in the book focuses on black women entrepreneurs who were able to succeed in post Civil War Atlanta, such as Myra Miller, a formerly enslaved woman who became the most prominent Black baker in the city during Reconstruction.

This is a Charis Circle From Margin to Center Literary Event. The suggested donation is $5.
