The metro region has the second fastest growing foreign-born population in the U.S.
Ever wanted to lend your voice to planning on Atlanta’s future as an international city? Now’s your chance.
The Atlanta Regional Commission, which handles planning for a 20-county region, is seeking members for its New Voices Global Advisory Panel, which will help ensure that its international community is well represented as the future is charted.
“Metro Atlanta is home to a diverse, vibrant international community that continues to grow,” Elizabeth Sanford, manager of ARC’s Community Engagement division, said in a statement. “It’s critically important to bring these voices into our discussions about the future of metro Atlanta.”
Panel members will help the ARC engage with the community to flesh out its concerns and ideas.
The initiative builds off the original New Voices panel, which focused on hearing the concerns of the city’s millennials.
As of 2013, about 13 percent of metro Atlanta’s population was born in another country. From 2000-10, the growth of the metro area’s foreign born population was second fastest in the nation behind Baltimore.
Applications for the panel are being accepted until March 3 (deadline extended).
The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) is seeking participation from Gwinnett County residents. The New Voices Global Atlanta is a new initiative at the ARC that aims to build stronger relationships with metro Atlanta's international community as we plan for our region's future.
Guided by the success of ARC’s Millennial Advisory Panel, we are inviting metro Atlanta residents who are part of the region’s vibrant international community to join us in forming a Global Atlanta Advisory Panel.
The purpose of the panel is to hear about your experiences, listen to your insights and become informed about your needs as we plan for the future of the Atlanta region.
As a member of the Global Atlanta Advisory Panel, you will have the opportunity to:
- Meet and network with international leaders and key elected officials from throughout metro Atlanta,
- Identify specific needs of your community that can guide ARC in planning for the region's future and present recommendations to ARC board members and other influential regional leaders.
If you are a member of Atlanta's International community and have a desire to help shape the future of the region, we hope you will apply. If you are not, we hope you will forward this email to someone you think would make an outstanding member for the Global Atlanta Advisory Panel. The application deadline has been extended to Friday, March 3, 2017
