BAGA: Kali Puja

Bengali Association of Greater Atlanta (BAGA): Kali Puja

2016: Maa Kali's new “protima” has arrived from Kumartuli. In the words of Ramesh Chandra Paul and his team of master craftsmen, "we have gone back to our roots and produced a masterpiece for Bangalis in Atlanta. We are proud to have shipped Maa Kali in her traditional look to the US." At about 5 feet, with her gaze upon us, our Protima is indeed awe-inspiring. With the arrival of Maa Kali's "Protima", our activities for the entire Puja season have taken a life of its own. Not many organizations celebrate Kali Puja in the US, and we are proud to be one of the few and the best.

For us, who have come to the distant shores of this land to set up home and work, the relevance of Durga Puja and Kali Puja resonates deeply and a sense of longing for our homes and the land we come from makes it all the more poignant. This year again we hope to instill an appreciation for our culture and tradition for our next generation who have not experienced Durga Puja or Kali Puja in Bengal or other parts of India.
