what's happening at ChantLanta 2015?
The ChantLanta Bazaar!
A tradition since 2012, the ChantLanta Bazaar is a vendor market (open from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday) featuring regional businesses, artists and practitioners that have products and services which are directly relevant to our community. Coordinated by the power team of Lisa Bennett and David Smead, the Bazaar is moving this year from its previous location (the Social Hall, which has been demolished in the recent DHBC renovation) to its fabulous new location in the Theater, directly underneath the main Sanctuary.
A new feature for 2015: we've got food trucks! Stan Holt has been busy rounding up some delicious, nutritious cuisine, which will be available through the afternoon in the church parking lot.

ChantLanta 2015 Schedule

Friday, March 6th, in the Social Hall
7:00 pm -- Doors Open!
7:30 pm -- Monkey Chant! with Grady Cousins
8:30 pm -- 5 Rhythms Sweat Your Prayers with Smith Hanes

MONKEY CHANT: This workshop is inspired by the interlocking vocal rhythms of Balinese Kecak (pronounced Ketjak), known to Westerners as Monkey Chant– Building Community Connection and Energy Through the Interlocking Vocal Rhythms of Monkey Chant. It is about Holding One’s Own Voice Strongly while Inter-Weaving with the Many Voices of Others in Community.  It is about releasing one’s Voice into greater freedom and expression.  There is laughter and improvisational voice exploration as well. Grady is passionate about the potential empowerment and joy that is born within a group of people focused upon interweaving their voices with monkey chant.

The 5Rhythms is a simple, powerful moving meditation that anyone - of any age, size, or physical ability - can practice. There are no steps to follow, no choreography to learn, no way to do it wrong. The only requirement is a body that is still breathing, a heart that is still beating, and a mind that is still curious! Just like light, sound, or ocean waves, a dancing body, when moving freely, passes through five distinct patterns. These patterns continuously repeat themselves in a wave of motion.

The 5Rhythms are: Flowing - the fluid, continuous, grounded glide of our own movements. Staccato - the percussive, pulsing beat that shapes us a thousand ways. Chaos - the rhythm of letting go, releasing into the catalytic wildness of our dance that can never be planned or repeated. Lyrical - the rhythm of trance, where the weight of self-consciousness dissolves, where we lighten up and disappear into our own uniqueness. Stillness - the quiet emptiness, where gentle movements rise and fall, start and end, in a field of silence.
