Praising the Formless: Songs of Kabir
This performance features internationally known singer Prahlad Singh Tipanya, together with five other musicians. The group specializes in Indian devotional music, particularly that of nirgun bhakti poet Kabir, whose teachings about the formless (nirgun) God are revered by both Hindus and Muslims in South Asia. Among many other awards, Tipanya ji received the prestigious Padma Shri, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Government of India, in 2011. He has toured in the United States and Europe several times. This concert features songs composed by Kabir and other Hindi-language singer-poets. Explanations will be given by Hindu scholar, Dr. Linda Hess (Stanford University).
