Natural indigo is a plant-based dye with ancient roots in Peru, India, Egypt, and in the centuries-old textile traditions of West Africa, as seen in the 19th-century Yoruba Egungun in the African Gallery and in Dr. Fahamu Pecou’s painting “eleri nla” featured in the exhibition DO or DIE: Affect, Ritual, Resistance. Experience the magic of indigo with textile artist Kathy Colt by dyeing a bandana to keep!
