Are you ready for a life-changing experience in INDIA?

UNC offers a faculty-led, summer study abroad program in India. Participants spend First Summer Session (almost 6 weeks) in India learning about society and culture for 7 hours of UNC credit. No prior knowledge of Hindi required. You do not have to be a full-time UNC student to apply. This program is also open to non-UNC students!

Three of the program weeks are spent in Delhi, the vibrant political and cultural capital of India. Also included are excursions to contrasting cities and regions of India: Agra, Aligarh, Rishikesh, and Haridwar. The group will also travel together to Jaipur (The Pink City) for an extended excursion before returning to New Delhi.

Dates: May 1​4-June ​22 (2018) (Summer Session)
Faculty leaders: Dr. Afroz Taj and John Caldwell (Dept. of Asian Studies)
Seven credit hours, three courses:
1. ASIA 228 Contested Souls: Introduction to Indian Literature and Culture (3 credits, fulfills LA and BN)
2. ASIA 243: Journalism and Society in India (3 credits, fulfills SS and BN)
3. ASIA 490: Hindi Conversation and Script (1 credit)
The Hindi Conversation and Script course will be catered to all levels of language learners, from beginner to advanced, allowing beginners basic conversation skills and an introduction to the writing system, and advanced students tutorials on pronunciation, writing, reading, vocabulary, or other topics on a individualized basis.

All courses will begin on the day after arrival, and continue for the duration of the program. The courses will be fully integrated with the program excursions and site visits.

Upon successful completion, students will receive UNC graded credit for each of the three courses.

Participation on this program also fulfills the EE general education requirement!

Estimated program cost: $4,000 includes tuition, lodging, all meals, local transportation, monuments, Study Abroad office fees, and insurance. Airfare to Delhi is not included.

Scholarships and financial aid are available for many students.
