The Power of Words Author Panel brings together each month three/four authors who utilize words to express powerful narratives, connection, and musing from a diversity of lenses.

Each author will share selections from their work followed by a question and answer opportunity for the audience. Authors will have books available for sale.

This event is moderated by Theresa Davis, author of “After This We Go Dark” and “Drowned: A Mermaid’s Manifesto” published with Sibling Rivalry Press.

This month's authors are Megan Volpert, Collin Kelley, Theresa Davis, and Kiran Bhat.

Collin Kelley is the author of the poetry collections Midnight in a Perfect World (Sibling Rivalry Press), the American Library Association-honored Render (Sibling Rivalry Press), Better To Travel (Poetry Atlanta Press) and Slow To Burn (Seven Kitchens Press). Sibling Rivalry Press is also the publisher of his acclaimed Venus Trilogy of novels, Conquering Venus, Remain In Light and Leaving Paris. A recipient of the Georgia Author of the Year Award, Deep South Festival of Writers Award and a finalist for the Townsend Prize for Fiction, Kelley’s poetry, reviews, essays and interviews have appeared in magazines, journals and anthologies around the world. Megan Volpert is the author of many books on popular culture, including two Lambda Literary Award finalists, a Georgia Author of the Year finalist and an American Library Association honoree. Her newest work is Boss Broad (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2019). She has been teaching high school English in Atlanta for over a decade and was 2014 Teacher of the Year. She writes for PopMatters and has edited anthologies of philosophical essays on the music of Tom Petty and the television series RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Theresa Davis is an author and performance poet residing in Atlanta Georgia. She is the mother of three brilliant huemyns, Imani, Tia and Zion who are a constant source of inspiration and pride. An educator for over 30 years, Davis now combines her teaching and writing styles to teach poetry workshops for teens and adults. A veteran slam poet, she held the title of Women of the World Slam Champion in 2011. Drowned: A Mermaid's Manifesto, her second book of poetry with Sibling Rivalry Press, was voted as one of 2017 Books All Georgians Should Read. In 2016 Creative Loafing voter her Best Local Poet and Best Spoken Word Artist. She is the host of the award winning open mic Java Speaks in Decatur, and Art Amok Slam at the Red Light Cafe every. Theresa also produces Poems and Pasties and MadMen & Poets variety shows focused on collaborating with the thriving Atlanta performance art community.

Kiran Bhat is a global citizen formed in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, to parents from Southern Karnataka, in India. An avid world traveler, polyglot, and digital nomad, he has currently traveled to over 130 countries, lived in 18 different places, and speaks 12 languages. His list of homes is vast, but he considers Mumbai the only place of the moment worth settling down in. He currently lives in Melbourne.
