Sunday, June 8, 11:00am-noon:
"Swami Vivekananda's Karma Yoga" , with Br. Shankara
Dear devotees and friends,
Swami Vivekananda (Swamiji) said:
“We are responsible for what we are; and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.
“… With regard to Karma Yoga, Bhagavad Gita says that it is doing work with cleverness and as a science; by knowing how to work, one can obtain the greatest results.
You must remember that all work is simply to bring out the power of the mind which is already there, to wake up the soul. The power is inside every man, so is knowing; the different works are like blows to bring them out, to cause these giants to wake up.”
morning, Br. Shankara will discuss four of Swamiji's ideas about work:
- This life is short, the vanities of the world are transient, but they alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead than alive.
- External nature is only internal nature writ large.
- Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.
- In a day when you don't come across any problems — you can be sure you are traveling in the wrong path.
Saturday June 14 & Sunday June 15:
Signup required for Swami Harinamananda's Workshop, "Worship as a Way of Transforming Your Heart."
Saturday June 14, 10am-2pm, in the Chapel (please bring a bag lunch):
Swami Harinamananda,Resident Minister in San Diego, will lead "Worship as a Way of Transforming your Heart." The Swami writes: In this instructional workshop, you will learn the meaning behind worship, how to do it, and actually perform worship yourself. It's a great spiritual practice in learning how to find the Divine within yourself, how to worship that Divine Presence, and how to bring it out and see everyone as Divine."
This workshop was offered recently at the San Diego and Santa Barbara Centers in California. Devotees were very pleased with the experience and felt their time was well spent.
To sign up for "Worship as a Way of Transforming your Heart," please e-mail Br. Shankara firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Sunday, June 15, Swami Harinamanandaji will speak in our Chapel from 11am-noon. He will offer us a “Vedanta Refresher Course.”
Sunday, June 15, 4:00pm to 6:00pm: Sacred Song Circle

All are invited to attend; more details of the program as they are known. (Bhumi is the Hindu goddess Mother Earth. Before the start of construction, a Bhumi Puja is performed. This is to ask permission from Bhumi Devi, and to get her good will and assistance. It also is to ask forgiveness for the disruption of the many living beings already on and in the land.)
Swami will be available for appointments during the day, both Tuesday and Wednesday Swami Sarvadevanandaji will be glad to meet with you, during the two days he is with us.
