Vishnu and his 10 avatars
AntiquiTEATUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2019, 4 – 5 PM |
In celebration of the Carlos Museum's centennial, AntiquiTEA programs this year will focus on transformative objects in the collection. In 2010, the museum began to work with Emory faculty in the Department of Religion to build a collection of Indian paintings on two themes: the Ramayana and the avatars of Vishnu, transforming the way the Asian collection is used in teaching. Enjoy afternoon chai and Indian snacks as Professor of Religion Joyce Flueckiger discusses the god Vishnu and the forms of the 10 avatars in which he descends to earth to restore cosmic order. This program is free and open to the Emory community and the public.
