Guest artists Midianto S. Putra (UC Berkely) and Muryanto join Emory’s Gamelan Ensemble for a traditional Wayang Kulit performance. Wayang Kulit is a tradition from the island of Java in Indonesia. This art combines visual art, music, drama and spirituality in a form rooted in Hindu epics and shaped by Islamic values but inflected toward universal ethical values. The Wayang Kulit art of Java is one of the most vivid and entertaining ways of portraying it for audiences of all ages, religions and cultural backgrounds. This event is made possible by funding from the Emory College Center for Creativity, the Emory University Department of Music and Arts’ David Goldwasser Series in Religion and the Arts.
