| Dr. Amit Sheth receives highest award from Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers |

| Dr. Amit Sheth, professor of computer science at the University of Georgia in Athens, was recently elected as an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow effective January 1st this year for contributions to information integration and workflow management. Conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of its fields of interest, the IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership in the organization. The IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications to electric power, aerospace engineering and consumer electronics. This is not the only accomplishment that Dr. Sheth is known for. As an educator and researcher, his activities often mutate to entrepreneurship involving commercial products and real-world applications. At the University of Georgia, he’s the director of the Large Scale Distributed Information Systems Lab, which he started in 1994. It’s now one of the top research labs in the area, attracting millions of dollars in funding from many companies, including well-known ones such as IBM and DARPA. A recipient of an award for advising UGA students on career development, he has published more than 200 papers and given over 150 invited talks. Besides being the editor-in-chief of the International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems, Dr. Sheth is on the editorial boards of other technical journals. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Sheth launched Talee, Inc. (now known as Semagix, Inc.) and Infocosm, Inc.
