Celtic Heritage Festival includes Indian roots

April 2011
Celtic Heritage Festival includes Indian roots The 4th annual Celtic heritage festival, “Embracing the Stones,” was held on March 12 this year at the Cochran Public Library in Henry County, Georgia. The event was sponsored by the Henry County Library system and Celtic Collection Program, a nonprofit living history and multicultural educational corporation owned by Lewis Hales.

This year’s festival included a bagpipe performance by attorney Henry Frantz; a special appearance by actress and model Danni Munson; Brandi, a Chippewa Pow Wow dancer (showing how historical stories and spirituality are expressed in the dance themes); educator and covergirl Pamela Reece; stand-up comedian Joan Trezevant; a performance by the Drake Irish Dance; and Celtic Collection Model, Naina Mehta, who was featured throughout the festival interacting with visitors. Photo shoots were also taken at the festival for historical articles to be published later this year and included her performance with other models.

The festival tells, from a multicultural perspective, the story of how Western society developed. Between 2,500 and 1,200 BC, ancient India and European communities traded together, intermarried and shared similar beliefs. They exchanged medicines, boat making techniques and views about astronomy.

“Indian culture influenced the development of Western thought far greater than has been realized, and Naina’s role provides opportunities to talk about these historical issues. Guests of all ages enjoy meeting her and learning more about their European history and ancestors,” states Hales. Naina’s son Sonny and husband Narendra also attended the event. Last year at the festival, Naina’s daughter, Soniya, performed an Indian dance.
