Housefull

After Heyy Babyy, expectations are high from funny man Sajid Khan, and he doesn’t totally disappoint. But while Housefull does succeed in tickling your funny bone, you do wish that the script had been more innovative and less clichéd. What make the movie watchable actually are the consummate performances from its ensemble cast.

Aarush (Akshay Kumar) believes that only true love can ward off his bad luck. He marries the daughter (Jiah Khan) of a wealthy businessman (Randhir Kapoor after a long hiatus) in the hope that his life will take a turn for the better, but there’s a twist in the tale. Eventually, Aarush does find Sandy (Deepika Padukone) who loves him, but there’s her military-man brother (Arjun Rampal) as a stumbling block. To complicate things further, there’s Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), who is Hetal’s (Lara Dutta) father. Hetal is the wife of Bob (Riteish Deshmukh), Akshay’s best buddy. So with all these characters, it’s a housefull! Quite literally.

Akshay is in good form as usual as the proverbial loser. His humor is becoming predictable though, and he should do something about that. Riteish is incredibly natural and Akshay and he together are a riot. The girls are good too: Deepika is sizzling hot but attractive Lara scores over her in the comic sequences. Jiah Khan manages to make her presence felt but the Akshay-Jiah track in the middle does weigh the film down a bit. Dour-faced Arjun Rampal suits the part and looks dapper. Boman Irani as the bumbling Gujarati is terrific as always.

The audio track has a few peppy numbers, especially Mika’s remix version of Apni To Jaise Taise.

So go watch Housefull and have an enjoyable time. Just ensure that you leave your brains behind!
