As India’s first zom-com, Go Goa Gone is a whacky mix of horror and humor, something that you have not seen before on the Hindi screen, although you might be familiar with the zombie genre in Hollywood films. To amalgamate these two disparate elements in a script requires a truly imaginative mind and the filmmakers need to be lauded for that.
Three friends, Hardik (Kunal Khemu), Luv (Vir Das) and Bunny (Anand Tiwari) land up at a rave party in Goa where the ultimate party drug is to be launched. Suddenly, something goes horribly wrong and they find themselves stranded on an island full of the walking dead! Things take an interesting turn when the group bumps into half-Russian, half-desi zombie killer Boris (Saif Ali Khan). While the first half is absolutely crackling, you wish the second half had been better fleshed out.
Performances are effervescent and effortless with Kunal, Vir, and Anand slipping into their roles with ease. The comic timing between Kunal and Vir is brilliant. However, the one who steals many a scene is the deadpan Tiwari. Saif himself is in great form and has you in splits with his Boris act.
So go for Go Goa Gone, if you want to have an ‘out of the box’ cinematic experience. You’ll thank God, it’s a nightmare only for the characters caught in the misadventure. For you, it’s only a mad, mad ride! But be ready to watch some gory scenes.
And yes, beneath all that fun, there is a serious ‘Say No to Drugs’ message.
