Slated for release in the first month of the New Year are Nagesh Kukunoor’s Aashayein starring John Abraham, and the Bhatts’ Raaz 2 (The Mystery Continues).
Hollywood meets Bollywood in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, a story about Jamal Malik, a Mumbai slum boy (played by Dev Patel) who rises to the top of the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Danny shot the movie in Mumbai. Anil Kapoor plays the TV host in the film, which is set for an all-India release on January 22. A strong contender for the Oscars, Slumdog Millionaire has been given a rousing reception at the Toronto and Los Angeles festivals. The film will be dubbed in Hindi also.
After Fire, actresses Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das are coming together once again for Deepa Mehta. This time the path-breaking filmmaker is doing an adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children. Hunt is on for the male lead.
