Learn Indian English, Lesson 6

April 2007
Learn Indian English, Lesson 6

1. Use ‘Mr.' and ‘Mrs.' as common nouns. For example: "Shilpa's Mr. is taking her out to dinner" or "My Mrs. can't wait for the World Cup to end."

2. Use ‘Mr.' with a first name. Refer to the president as Mr. George, not Mr. Bush.

3. If you don't know someone's name (or even if you do) just call them ‘Baba.' For example: "No, Baba, I have no idea when the war is going to end. Maybe you should ask Mr. George."
