Superman Vaccinates Thousands in Pennsylvania
Thanks to Superman, thousands of people in the Philadelphia suburb of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, have received their Covid-19 vaccine.
No, not the fictional superhero, but the pharmacist wearing a Superman suit.
His name is Dr. Mayank Amin, owner of Skippack Pharmacy, and he first donned the Superman suit on New Year’s Eve to surprise a young boy. Amin, 36, had filled a prescription for the boy and decided to make a home delivery because the pharmacy was closing for the night.
The boy was so happy that Amin decided to keep surprising people with the Superman costume, even while giving the Covid vaccinations. On Super Bowl Sunday, his pharmacy received 1,200 vaccines. Amin began vaccinating people the next day, a throng of people coming to the clinic despite eight inches of snow on the ground.
“As I was walking with that box of 1,200 vaccines, everyone was just cheering. It was a celebration outside. And people didn’t care how cold it was or about the snow,” Amin told Good Morning America. “This was a union of our community and there was one crazy pharmacist that was wearing a costume.”
After receiving vaccinations from him, some elderly people asked to take photos with him. An Army veteran gave him a touching tribute.
“He said, ‘As people that serve this country, we usually bow down and we salute our dignitaries, other veterans, people that serve our country. Today I’m giving you the biggest medal that any veteran can give.’ Then he put his hand up to his forehead and saluted me.”
