In the running for Business Person of the Year award

Each year the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Atlanta Business Chronicle honor outstanding business professionals from around metro Atlanta through the Business Person of the Year Awards. At this year’s celebration at the MAC’s Awards Luncheon on June 6, 2013, over 300 attendees recognized entrepreneurs from three different stages of business: an “Experienced Entrepreneur,” with seven or more years of experience; an “Emerging Entrepreneur,” with three to seven years of experience; and an “Early Stage Entrepreneur,” with one to three years experience.

Srinivasa Nimmagadda (photo on right), founder of Vensai Technologies, has leveraged his technical background to build a multimillion dollar organization on three continents, providing software development solutions for the world’s top healthcare and logistics companies. Having demonstrated exemplary business achievement, customer growth, community leadership, industry influence, and entrepreneurial success in the past year, and having earned public recognition and served as a mentor for other entrepreneurs, Nimms was one of the 5 finalists for “Experienced Entrepreneur.”

Harman Singh Johar (photo at top), a senior at the University of Georgia at the time of the awards, was named as one of the 4 “Startups to Watch.” Founding World Entomophagy in 2010, he has grown the company from a small website out of his college dorm to a leader in the emerging entomophagy (edible insects) industry. His areas of study include Applied Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, and Entomology. His company provides organically raised crickets, mealworms, and scorpions—see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOdbaTrsJxQ. The U.K. House of Lords asked Harman to represent the U.S. at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance June briefing in Russia.
