Seventh grader is Georgia geography bee champ

Seventh grader wins state, advances to nationals in geography bee

Vibhav Kanyadan, a seventh-grader at The Walker School in Marietta, was commended for his “personality and brains” when he topped 103 students to win the 2015 National Geographic State Bee (GeoBee) competition held on March 27 at Georgia College in Milledgeville.

Kanyadan received $100 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. to represent Georgia in the national championship at National Geographic Society headquarters on May 11-13. The final round offers the winner a $50,000 college scholarship. The national competition may be seen on the National Geographic Channel and NG Wild on May 15 at 8 p.m.

From the thousands of schools in the United States that participate in the National Geographic Bee, nineteen of the state winners are Indian-Americans. They include 4th graders through 8th graders. See the complete list below.
