A coalition of engineers' groups selected Nirmal K. Das, associate professor at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, for the 2006 award in engineering education. Dr. Das's areas of interest and specialization include structural engineering, wind engineering, structural reliability, and nondestructive evaluation. As a practicing civil engineer, both in the U.S. and India, he has performed structural design for a variety of projects, ranging from diverse hydraulic structures, buildings and manufacturing plants to highway bridges and electrical substation structures, according to the award citation.
