Nirmal Das wins 2006 engineer of the year award in education

A coalition of engineers' groups selected Nirmal K. Das, associate professor at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, for the 2006 award in engineering education. Dr. Das's areas of interest and specialization include structural engineering, wind engineering, structural reliability, and nondestructive evaluation. As a practicing civil engineer, both in the U.S. and India, he has performed structural design for a variety of projects, ranging from diverse hydraulic structures, buildings and manufacturing plants to highway bridges and electrical substation structures, according to the award citation. He has mentored over 130 graduates since 1993 and has also contributed 10 chapters to a popular manual on civil engineering. Many of his published papers deal with the teaching and learning of structural analysis and design.
