– Norah Jones, daughter of sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, is born in Brooklyn, New York.

She grew up living with her mother, Sue Jones, in Grapevine, Texas. Jones has won nine Grammy awards. She was estranged from her father for a period of time but reunited with him and collaborated with him prior to his death.
