Bobby Jindal
WHO: BOBBY JINDAL, Political gains, congressman/governor-elect of Louisiana.
WHY: Becomes the first Indian American to be elected as a governor in the U.S. At age 36, he has also emerged as the nation’s youngest governor. Earlier, Jindal became the first Indian American congressman for the Republican Party. The only other Indian American congressman, Dalip Singh Saund, had been elected as a Democrat.
WHAT WAS SAID: Jindal is committed to erasing the state's shabby national image. Others who have held the office of governor have expressed that commitment, but the ugly image of corruption has not gone away. If Jindal follows through on his promises, we may be approaching a time of positive change. (Lafayette Daily Advertiser)
WHAT HE SAID: “Don’t let anyone tell you any different; don’t let anyone talk bad about Louisiana. Those days are now officially over. We are serving notice—Louisiana is very soon going to be on the rise. In recent months, many in our nation have gotten the wrong view of Louisiana.”
