Oberoi Udaivilas Ranked Best Hotel In The World
Several famous hotels in India are converted palaces from the erstwhile princely states. Yet some of these luxury hotels are not heritage resorts, despite their appearance, since they were built more recently. They merely evoke the grandeur of those majestic palaces. One good example is the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Earlier this year, Travel+Leisure magazine picked it as the world's best hotel for its 12th annual awards. In a ranking based on reader surveys, this was the first time an Indian hotel made it to the top. So what are the room rates? It's not surprising to learn that the Premier Lake View Room can be had for $700 a night. If that sounds like chump change, one could always upgrade to the Luxury Suite with Private Pool for $2700. Even better, the Kohinoor Suite with Private Pool is available for the princely sum of $3300. What about budget travelers? Not to worry. The Premier Room only costs $600 a night. Jokes aside, this beautiful luxury resort, completed in 2002 on the banks of Lake Pichola, occupies 20 acres of land in a wildlife conservatory. Known for its spas and therapies, the hotel has two themed restaurants. Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra and Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur were ranked no. 10 and no. 11, respectively, in the same survey.
