The Sporting Singhs: Jeev, Vijay and Milkha

Move over, Vijay Singh – or at least, make room for another golfing Singh in the upper echelon of the game. Jeev Milkha Singh, the number 1 golfer from India, has broken into the top 50 of the official world golf rankings. Though Vijay Singh's current ranking is number 7, and he has little to worry about for now, Jeev Milkha Singh is not too far behind. Having had a spectacular 2006, Jeev shows no signs of slowing down in 2007. Last year, not only did he bag the titles at Volvo Masters in Spain and at Volvo China Open but he also won the 2006 Asian Order of Merit. One of the checks he received in 2006 was apparently the highest lump-sum payment given to a sportsman from India. In December, he was voted the Player's Player of the Year in Bangkok, where he also won the UBS Special Achievement Award. As per the UBS listing, Jeev Milkha Singh is now the top-ranking Asian golfer. He is the son of Milkha Singh, a famed sprinter who was dubbed the Flying Sikh in his heyday.
