Dr. Swamy earned an M.A. in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkota and a Doctorate in economics from Harvard University in 1964. He was a visiting professor at Harvard till 2013. Dr. Swamy was also a professor at Economics at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, until he resigned the post in 1991, when he became Cabinet Minister for Commerce, Law & Justice. He was a Member of the Indian Parliament for five terms since 1974 and is now senior leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Party.
Dr. Swamy is widely respected for his conviction and commitment to furthering democracy and market economy. In fact, the Reform program which Dr. Swamy had been promoting for nearly two decades, has become today the mainstream thought and ideology in the country’s leadership. He has been a leading and tireless fighter against corruption in India.
Dr. Swamy is the author of several books on economics, Labor, Finance and foreign policy. His first book in 1971 presented a clear alternative economic strategy, in his book – “Economic Planning in India – An Alternative Approach” (Vikas Publishers).
