Community Champions Gala is our time to recognize our local superheroes, celebrate the hard work we have done together and give thanks our community champions, for your hard work and dedication.
The gala honors individuals who have dedicated their lives to furthering the civil, social and economic rights of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in Georgia.
The Community Champions Gala is a sit-down formal dinner, our largest event of the year. It brings together 350-400 guests, including elected officials, established and emerging community and business leaders from several local Asian American communities!

Keynote Speaker
Historian, Educator, Author!
Our Keynote Speaker, Carol Anderson is a professor of African American Studies at Emory University. Her research focuses on public policy with regards to race, justice, and equality. She is also an author of White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide, a New York Times Bestseller and National Book Critics Circle Award Winner, One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy & more!

2019 Community Champion is Christopher J. Chan!

Chris is a Partner at the global law practice of Eversheds Sutherland with over 3,000 attorneys worldwide. A Leadership Atlanta Class of 2019 graduate, Chris helped lead GAPABA to be a leading bar organization in the State of Georgia. Chris mentors many younger attorneys, law school students, and future law students. Chris is also passionate about raising local Asian American community awareness on the important issues impacting our communities.

2019 Rising Star Community Champion is Kavi Vu! 

Kavi is a Vietnamese American storyteller who uses videography, photography, and poetry to preserve history. She is the co-founder of Wake Up, Atlanta, a web-series that uses videos and graphics to civically engage Asian American millennials in Georgia. She became a Center for Civic Innovation Fellow in 2018 and continues to work towards ensuring that the Asian American voice is present: in our screens, on the stage, and at the polls.

Time
Please arrive by 6:00 PM at the Westin Perimeter North. There will be a brief reception period before the doors open at 6:30 PM. We plan to conclude the program by 9:00 PM.

Location
The Westin Atlanta Perimeter North is located at 7 Concourse Parkway NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30328. The gala will be held at the Grand Ballroom. Click Here for a map.

There will also be signs and volunteers to help guide you.

Parking
The Westin Hotel will provide complimentary self-parking for 1 car per guest. Turn left into the
parking lot, before the building entrance. The gate will open at 9 pm for departures. Guests who leave before 9 pm will need to press the blue button on the intercom to speak with a hotel rep,
in order to exit the parking lot free of charge.

Driving Directions from the Airport:

  • Take Interstate 85 North to Georgia State Route 400 (Exit 87).
  • Proceed on GA-400 to the Glenridge Connector (Exit 4A).
  • Turn right at the end of the connector onto Glenridge. 
  • Proceed to the second traffic light.
  • Turn left onto Peachtree-Dunwoody Road.
  • Turn left at the 6th light into Concourse Office Park.  The hotel will be on the right.

Bar
Guests will receive one complimentary drink ticket for the purchase of wine and beer. A cash/credit bar will be available for the purchase of additional beverages.

Book Signing
Guests will have the opportunity to purchase Carol Anderson’s books, White Rage and One Person, No Vote. Carol Anderson will be signing purchased books at 8:00 pm outside the grand ballroom entrance.
