Join us for the documentary premiere of "American Hasi," featuring stand-up comedian Tushar Singh and his number one fan—his mom—on a 35-day comedy tour across six cities in India, followed by a conversation with Tushar Singh and Laura Asherman (director) on what would give most moms a heart attack: finding out their child's been fired from a cushy job and gone out on a limb to pursue their creative dream instead.

ABOUT THE FILM
Tushar Singh was raised in Huntsville, Alabama with a strict Indian upbringing, a contradiction that set him up for years of awkwardness and an arsenal of stand-up comedy material. After losing his job for making disparaging remarks about his company’s HR manager on the company-wide Skype chatroom, Tushar decides he’s had enough of his double life—working a mundane daytime job and doing comedy at night—and embarks on a comedy tour of India, clinging to hopes that he can fast track his way to a full-time comedy career in an emerging scene where audiences will “get him” better than Americans.
In India, Tushar interacts with foreign audiences for the first time; gets life-changing advice from Russell Peters, Bill Burr, and Vir Das; and attempts to reconcile his career goals and creative identity with his family’s sacrifices and conservative upbringing. "American Hasi" is a funny and delightfully awkward story that captures the struggles of the brave few who try to make a living out of their creative passion.
