May is Asian American Heritage Month

The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Throughout the month of May, Gwinnett County Government will join in paying tribute to the generations of Asian/Pacific Americans who have enriched our community and are instrumental in its future success.

Visit the Asian /Pacific American Heritage Display at GJAC

For a limited time, Asian/Pacific countries will be on display through an exhibit at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center. The Exhibit will feature artifacts, clothing, art and facts about each country on the continent to include the Pacific Islands.

The Asian/Pacific countries display is a made possible by contributions from members and volunteers of the Gwinnett Multicultural Advisory Committee, The Center for Pan Asian Community Services, and the Asian Pacific American Council of Georgia.

The exhibit is open to the public May 14-May 31 at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center (Atrium). 75 Langley Drive, Lawrenceville.

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Night

Join Gwinnett County Government on Tuesday, May 22nd at 7:00pm as we honor the contributions of Asian Americans in our community! This event will include a formal recognition and proclamation presentation from the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. The event will be followed by a reception, which will feature an Asian countries exhibit, performances and special guest speakers. Refreshments will be provided.
