Celebrating India's Independence Day with Colorful Kites

Celebrating India's Independence Day with Colorful Kites
Hosted by Association for India's Development, Atlanta Chapter
Kite Flying is a very popular activity in the Indian subcontinent. It has been an intrinsic part of folklore, songs, poetry, festivals and of course Bollywood movies since time immemorial. :) Go to any part of India, you will find kids and adults indulging in this fun filled activity at play grounds or at their roof tops. Colorful kites dotting the skyline is a very common sight in the Indian countryside.
Kites have a very significant place in the Indian freedom struggle as well. Indians during the freedom struggle used kites - with the slogan 'Go Back Simon' - as a means of protest during the Simon Commission of 1927. Ever since kite flying has become a tradition on the Indian Independence Day - Aug 15th.
Kite Flying symbolizes the spirit of freedom.
As India steps into the 71st year of Independence, come join us and feel the freedom of the flight of a kite. We will have kites for everyone. We will help you learn the art of kite flying as well!!! :)
We would love to fly kites with each one of you and talk to you about our organization, its objectives and its activities!!!
