Children's Poetry Workshop with Maya Eashwaran
Award winning poet Maya Eashwaran is introducing a series of poetry workshops that aims to create a safe space allowing people to ceate a culture of inclusiveness through poetry. This is a part of the National Student Poets Program Community Service Initiative.
Workshop: Partner Poetry
This workshop allows children to build teamwork skills by creating a new friend and writing a poem together. The goal is to create a safe space of inclusiveness through poetry. "I hope to open young children's minds to poetry and writing as a form of communicating with the world, " says Maya. The workshop centers around teamwork and appreciation of others in such a divisive time.
For children in 3rd-5th grades. Parents are welcome to stay, but the activities are for children only.
Meet the poet
Maya Eashwaran is nationally recognized for her writing in poetry. Her poetry explores personal topics such as being a first generation Indian in America and assimilation in the modern age, along with her love of music. She is 17 years old.
Registration Information
This workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required. For ages 3rd-5th grade only.
