Since its inception in 1992, Brentano String Quartet has performed around the world, gaining acclaim for its “luxuriously warm sound [and] yearning lyricism” (New York Times). The versatile ensemble boasts a wide-ranging repertoire, from music predating the quartet as a medium to collaborations with contemporary composers.
Vijay Iyer is a jazz pianist, composer, bandleader, electronic musician, jazz scholar and a 2013 MacArthur Fellow. Voted Musician of the Year (2010) and Pianist of the Year (2012 & 2013) by the Jazz Journalists Association, Iyer is forging a new concept of Jazz and American creative music through his inventive compositions and scholarly research.
The program will feature a new piece by Iyer: Time, Place, Action.
