Days of Gold and Sepia
is the fascinating saga of Lalljee Lakha, a penniless orphan, who rises from humble beginnings in his desert homeland of Kutch, to amass fortune and fame as‘Cotton King’ in Bombay. Set against the fascinating century that was India between the War of Independence in 1857 and the dawn of independence in 1947, and the backdrop of the vibrant city of Bombay, this sweeping tale is peopled by a rich array of characters, merchant princes and maharajas, courtesans and soothsayers, Europeans and Anglo-Indians, freedom fighters and soldiers of the British raj….  It is a story of the discovery of life and of a passionate and hopeless love, painting the portrait of a man of courage and character, of great personal integrity and human frailty, giving us a glimpse into another time, another era, through the perspective of one man’s incredible journey.

“….. A powerful narrative developed against the backdrop of a turbulent century, an epic cast of characters that involves the readers in their destinies by their authenticity and vitality, a rare sensitivity to the nuances of human passion and suffering…Such control of the craft of story-telling is astonishing in a fiction debut.”
