"Women And The Cardiac Health (WATCH)" group is a small group of women who decided to have an awareness program to tackle the Cardiac issues which are causing pandemonium in families of the affected leading to physical, psychological and financial turmoil. We formed the awareness group WATCH to promote healthy living with exercise being part of the daily routine or rather a ritual. This year alone we lost a few of our friends in late 40's due to cardiac issues. We decided we have to do something at the community level for the Indian diaspora.
Dr. Raghu Katragadda, an Emory cardiologist enthusiastically agreed to help us in this endeavor. Thanks to him, we started meeting once a week, every Saturday since June 2019. We meet at the Atlanta Recreation club in Cumming, Georgia. We designed a robust exercise program encompassing Resistance training, Cardio, Running/ jogging and Jump rope work out. We are very scientific in our approach and our routines are second to none either in technique or intensity. This group is open to all age groups who are keen on getting “Fit for Life”, which has become our Motto. We are mandating that all participants get a clearance form their physicians and parents (for youth). Our core group have started slowly barely able to run a quarter mile or do 50 jump ropes and now some of us are able to run 5 k effortlessly and able to do 100 jump ropes continuously. This surely is not a trivial achievement by a group of women who started exercising late in their life.
We decided to organize a jump rope event on Dec 15th, 2019 to spread the awareness of this WATCH group and FIT INDIA Movement among our community. Please see the flyer with additional details.
