This immersion is based on one of the central texts of modern Buddhism, the Prajñā Pāramitā Hṛdāya Sūtra, popularly known as the Heart Sutra. In the Heart Sutra, the Bodhisattva of Compassion attempts to explain the nature of śūnyatā (translated as "emptiness"), which is the essence of infinite consciousness. At the end of the text, the Bodhisattva explains that if one does not understand his explanation, then śūnyatā can be directly experienced through chanting the Heart Sutra Mantra:
gate gate pāragate pārasaṁgate bodhi svāhā
gone, gone, gone beyond, gone completely beyond, I surrender myself to awakening
Ian sings sacred bhajans (prayer songs) and leads the group in chanting mantras, accompanied by drums, harmonium, Indian harp, and various other instruments.
Margo creates a soundscape of sacred vibrations using Himalayan singing bowls, Chinese wind gong, and more, that form an environment of healing and meditative energies. |
