The Tibetan Buddhist practice of creating sand mandalas and the Hindu tradition of making rangoli, while different, are both ephemeral—the intention is in the making and not the keeping. Homeschool families are invited to tour the special exhibition Transcendent Deities of India: The Everyday Occurrence of the Divine and then explore the differences and similarities of these ancient traditions from South Asia firsthand. View the Tibetan monks of Drepung Loseling Monastery as they create a sand mandala as a part of Tibet Week, and then try sand painting with the copper chak-pur and colored sand. Visit the studio to learn how to make a traditional Rangoli before experimenting with original designs.

Fee: $8 for members and $12 for nonmembers, free for children 5 and under. Space is limited, and registration is required online.
