Join us for our ICE Out of Gwinnett Week of Action as we fight to get 287(g) removed from Gwinnett County! Make sure you sign up at bit.ly/287gsignup
Here's what we'll be doing each day:
5/28: Public comments at the Board of Commissioners Meeting: The meeting is at Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, and starts at 7, but come around 7:45/8.
5/29: Social Media Day and Phone Banking
We will be conducting a social media campaign targeted at the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and the Gwinnett County Sheriffs Office. Time TBD
5/30: 287(g) Town Hall/Teach-In
We'll be doing a 287(g) education and information session at Cafe Rothem at 6:30pm. Come by for coffee and to learn about how 287(g) has impacted communities.
5/31: Artivist Event
With the help of community members, we'll be a part of an artivist happening at Duluth Food Truck Fridays. Ever heard of Theater of the Oppressed? ;)
6/1: Mass Canvass
Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta will be launching a mass canvass out of our office Saturday morning to go door-to-door and educate community members about 287(g). Time TBD
6/2: Church Preach-In
Churches across Gwinnett County will be doing preach-ins or handing out information about 287(g) at their congregations. Let us know if your church would be interested in participating!
6/3: Direct Action/Colonize Spaces
We're going to do a direct action at Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. We want to show the Board of Commissioners that we are organized, and we are reclaiming spaces that belong to the community.
6/4: Petition Delivery, Press Conference, and Rally
We will be dropping off signatures from the 287(g) Sign-On letter (which you can sign here: bit.ly/287gletter) to the Board of Commissioners at their 2pm Business Work Session and have a press conference! We will conclude the Week of Action with a rally in the evening.
