Math Tournament (Level: Middle School)
Presented By: Packs 4 Peers (Non-Profit Organization)
The goal of Packs 4 Peers Math Tournament, open to middle-school students, is to "provide a challenging, engaging mathematical experience [that] is both competitive and educational."
The proceeds raised through this tournament will be used to purchase school supplies and backpacks for the underprivileged students from Atlanta Public Schools. Your donation will impact our mission!

Registration Information:
1.Payment and registration will be done through an online form. All entry fees will be used to support Packs 4 Peers and to purchase school supplies. Competitors will check in upon arrival at 1:00 PM.
2.Individual Competitor (testing only): $7 per student
3.Team (testing AND team ciphering): $7 per student, all team members must register separately [Note: if registering as a team member, each student only needs to make a single payment.]
4.An optional fee of $3 can be added to receive a tournament t-shirt (first come first serve basis).
5.Must be in grades 6-8. State-wide entry.

Competition Details:
1.Individual Test: Both individual competitors and team competitors will test in this round. This section of the competition consists of 30 multiple choice problems. You will have 60 minutes to complete all the problems. You are not allowed to use calculators, books or other aids during this round. Calculations may be done on scratch paper. If you complete the problems before time is called, use the remaining time to check your answers.
2.Team Ciphering: Only competitors registered as teams will “officially” compete in this round. Individual competitors will have the option to participate if they would like, and will be grouped randomly. This section of the competition consists of 10 problems which the team has 20 minutes to complete. Team members may work together in any way to solve the problems. Team members may talk to each other during this section of the competition. This round assumes the use of non-graphing calculators, and calculations also may be done on scratch paper, but no other aids are allowed.
Scoring:
1.Individual Test: For every question answered correctly, 1.667 points will be awarded. There is no penalty for guessing. Ties will be broken for individuals based on the time the test was turned in (i.e. If person A and person B have the same score, if person A turns in his/her test first, they will be ranked higher), and if needed, specific unmarked questions will be used as tiebreakers.
2.Team Ciphering: For every question answered correctly 5 points will be awarded to teams. The final team score will consist of the sum of the average of the team members’ test scores and their team ciphering score.
Awards:
1.Top 10 Individual Test Scorers will be announced and will receive trophies/medals
2.Top 3 Teams will be announced and will receive trophies/medals
