"Music from India" Fund Drive (WRFG)

Music From India is part of our Atlanta desi history, from around 1973
on WRFG (FM89.3) - Sundays at3 PM

Dear Friends,

We would like to extend our personal invitation to all of you to join in support of your community radio WRFG (FM89.3), as we celebrate 40 years of service to our listeners. “Music From India” program is broadcast every Sunday between 3 to 5 PM.

WRFG is a non-commercial, listener supported community radio which is total run by a dedicated group of volunteers. WRFG FM89.3 Broadcasts 24 Hours a day with at 100,000 Watts radio power house. WRFG provides a voice for those who have been traditionally denied access to the broadcast media and the involvement of a broad base of community elements to guarantee that access. Since going on the air in 1973, WRFG has filled a void on the Atlanta airwaves. WRFG was the first Atlanta radio station since the 1950s to feature such regional musical forms as blues, bluegrass and jazz. Reflecting Atlanta's emergence as an "international city," it pioneered programming oriented toward the area's growing Latin, African, Asian and Caribbean communities.

Almost from the very start, “Music From India” has been on the air serving the metro-Atlanta Community with the best in Indian Classical, modern pop, and more traditional music of the South Asian origin. This program has served the listeners on a continuous basis, while other radio programs have come and disappeared. The most important feature of WRFG is that we remain totally independent of any special interest groups, as we do not accept any commercial revenue and are totally operated on the generous support of our loyal listeners. We carefully hand pick our product based on the input of you, our listeners. In addition to the music from the various disciplines, we also bring to you important information and happenings around town with special guests, and experts on issues of concern to you.

We ask for your support to help us continue this long going effort in two specific ways. First request that you listen to “Music From India” program as well as other programs on WRFG as your favorite spot on your radio dial, and recruit your friends and neighbors to do so. And then, the most importantly, we ask you to open your hearts and wallets to support the self-less effort by our volunteers at WRFG to continue the radio programs of your choice. This 24/7 radio operation is totally run by the most dedicated all-volunteer group - there are only two paid staff members.

We are in the middle of our first Fund Drive of the year, and are asking your support to keep us on the air. You can donate on-line at www.wrfg.org or by calling in to the studio at 404-523-8989 to support your favorite show, Music From India. If you choose to support Music From India, please indicate the name of the program on your donation form, or, if done on-line, let us know accordingly at bhargave@bellsouth.net

This is when we come to you, our loyal listeners, for support. It's thanks to you that we can bring, over our airwaves, progressive news and music and cultural expressions from throughout the world. What we offer is an independent, non-commercial voice since 1973. We are and always have been Atlanta's voice of the people.

Best regards,
Suman and Jagan Bhargave
