Mythatronics: Online Camp by Carlos Museum

Camp Carlos Online: MYTHATRONICS!
Monday-Friday, July 6-10 | 10 AM to 3 PM
Online
In their stories and art, ancient peoples imagined automated “metal men” and “flying chariots” that could be of service and perform impossible feats. The great Hindu epic, the Ramayana, features Pushpak, a vimana, or self-propelled vehicle, that was stolen by Ravana, the ten-headed king of Lanka. Puskpak shone like the sun, was as large as a cloud, and could be controlled by thought and voice commands. Hey, Pushpak! Fly me to Ayodhya!
In this first-ever online Camp Carlos, campers will conceptualize, build, and code their own vimana into reality.
Through Zoom sessions and tutorial videos with teaching artist Lakeem Winborne, campers will:
• explore the story, characters, and narrative format of the Ramayana in Indian paintings
• use “comic” style sequential art to draw out a basic storyline
• learn coding as a form of storytelling
• build and individualize a robot vimana
• write code to make their robot vimana “enact” their story
For ages 10 to 15 years
Fee: $105 for members; $125 for nonmembers. Space is limited and online registration is required. ONLY FIVE SPOTS LEFT!
What you’ll need to participate:
