According to the 2010 Census, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) comprise 3.2% of the population in Georgia, experiencing an 82% growth since 2000. Other Southeastern states have experienced rapid AAPI population growth as well: Alabama: 71%, Florida: 71%, South Carolina: 64%, Tennessee: 61%. The AAPI Southeast Regional Action Summit will convene principal Obama Administration officials for a day of open dialogue, in which participants from the community and government will work together to create an action plan for empowering the AAPI community. During the summit, participants will:
Establish a space where community leaders can inform the Obama Administration about issues of concern to the AAPI community;
Learn about federal resources and programs available and develop solutions to address these issues; and
Develop opportunities for community leaders to inform one another about innovative approaches to meet the needs of AAPI communities across the country.
