Spring Break: Aru Shah and the Gods of India

 

April 6-10, 9 AM to 4 PM for children ages 7-12 CANCELED

Shiva, Hanuman, Krishna, and Arjuna, gods and demigods of the Hindu pantheon, are featured in both the exhibition Transcendent Deities of India and author Roshani Chokshi’s Aru Shah books in which the Pandava brothers from the great Indian epic Mahabharata are reincarnated as middle school girls.

Teaching artist Pam Beagle-Daresta will join forces with master puppeteer Claire Ritzler to lead children on an adventure through Transcendent Deities of India and the world of Aru Shah through a variety of art activities including large-scale collaborative puppets, block printing, mehndi designs, and other traditional Indian arts, culminating in an exuberant procession.

Campers will be among the first to receive a copy of Aru Shah and The Tree of Wishes, the third book in the Pandava Quartet, when it is released on Tuesday, April 7 and Roshani Chokshi will visit camp to answer questions about Aru, Hindu deities, and becoming an author.

Fee: $230 for Carlos Museum members; $270 for nonmembers and includes the cost of the book.
