World Music Festival INDIA:
Ustad Shafaat Khan, tabla maestro, has played with Stevie Wonder and shared a concert with Ray Charles.

Students will learn the differences between Indian and Western music; the Indian solfege of scales (SA RE GA MA); Indian rhythm cycles; the language of the Tabla drums; a brief history of the Indian music and its origins; information on Sitar and Tabla such as how they are made, tuned and played; and the art of improvising within classical music.

 


The Summer World Music Festival is presented as part of Spivey Hall's Young People's Concerts, providing individuals of all ages access to outstanding live performances. Artists featured during the Summer World Music Festival will provide study guides in advance of their performance that meet Georgia Performance Standards for curriculum connections in world history, geography, and music. The Spivey Hall Summer World Music Festival is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts. Tickets for Spivey Hall's Summer World Music Festival are priced at $2 per concert in advance and $5 at the door, and are available for purchase online now.
