Yoga has come to mean different things. It has proved its worth for millennia that it can ensure robust
health and wellness on terra firma. For those for whom Yoga is second nature due to regular practice,
the claims by way of benefits are pretty obvious. The International Day of Yoga 2016 is the inspiration
for the Workshop.
This free Workshop in the public interest, has the modest objective of looking at the scientific or
clinical evidence demonstrating that yogic exercises and breathing have salutary outcomes in
conditions such as arthritis, asthma, back ache, cancer, cardio-vascular issues including high and low
blood pressure, diabetes, mental depression sometimes caused by trauma, attention
deficit/hyperactivity disorder and other related illnesses.
Agenda
Welcome by Mr. Dharam Vir Singh, Consul General of India, Atlanta, and Chinmaya Mission
Introductory Remarks by Moderator: Dr. Nazeera Dawood, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations,
Office of the Chairman, Board of Commissioners, Fulton County
Dr. Jay Srinivasiah will speak on the use of yoga as an aid in cancer management.
Dr. Niraj Sharma MD, FACC focuses on benefits of yoga protocols including breathing for cardiac
Dr. Raju Vanapalli and Dr. Tulasi Vanapalli will narrate their experience with yoga therapies in the
areas of orthopedic complaints and general health issues.
Those willing to come up with anecdotal experiences with Yoga techniques for specific health issues
will be offered an opportunity to narrate them.
Sudhanva Char will make a Power point presentation listing the evidence for claims made for some of
the ill-health conditions above. He will also recount experience in dealing with Alzheimer and related
problems, yoga in pregnancy, regularizing monthly cycles, and in diabetes.
Time permitting, there will
be Q & A session too as well as demos of useful yoga postures that can have a salutary impact on
The Work Shop ends with a Tertium Quid of the state of the art in Yoga treatment by Mr. Sainathan
Sivasubramanian.
