Karisma in real
life role of bride
It didn't look any different from a film shoot. Only this time the film's heroine Karisma Kapoor was taking the pheras for real, with childhood friend and Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The most talked about marriage in recent Indian showbiz history was solemnised on September 29 at the Kapoors' ancestral home, RK Cottage in Deonar, Chembur. The bride, looking radiant in a diamond-studded silver and pink ghaghra choli, was quite at her blushing best and sister Kareena looked resplendent too in a green and pink lehenga choli. And as for the celebrity guests, it was a virtual who's who of Bollywood. Salman Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Rajesh Khanna, Govinda, Akshaye and Rahul Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, Simi Garewal, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor?to name just a few. And the Bachchans? Well, as expected, they were conspicuous by their absence. Other notable absentees were Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgan.
Big B's friends
boycott wedding
An affront to the Bachchans, it seems, is not easily forgotten. The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and K3G director Karan Johar was among those who decided to stay away from RK Villa on D-Day. Karan admits Abhishek and Karisma's broken engagement was hard to digest. "Not attending the wedding was a way to mark our annoyance. Calling off the marriage was a huge blow to the Bachchans' prestige and I am emotionally attached to them." A couple of political and corporate bigwigs also boycotted the shaadi in a show of solidarity with Big B. That's the silent power Amitabh Bachchan wields!
Meanwhile, Karan's production Kal Ho Naa Ho, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan is slated for a November release. The film has already created quite a buzz with its melodious music by the Dil Chahta Hai trio of Shankar, Ehsan and Loy.
Ajay romances
sister-in-law
Ajay Devgan need not look beyond his family for onscreen romance. These days when he's not wooing wifey's cousin Rani Mukherjee, he's serenading his sister-in-law Tanisha. Yes, the hot new jodi (pair) of Ajay and Tanisha is all set to sizzle on the silver screen in Nitin Manmohan's new film titled Tango Charlie. A little known fact is that the two worked together in the Ajay-Rani starrer Chori Chori. Surprised? Well, actually Tanisha was an assistant on the sets and worked behind the camera. The girl is supposed to be as talented (and as temperamental too) as her sister Kajol and industrywallas are waiting to see if Ajay can create the same onscreen magic with her that he did with the vibrant Kads during the height of their off-screen romance.
J Lo, Rani in hot
competition!
JLo (Jennifer Lopez) has competition from?our own Rani Mukherjee! The pretty, light-eyed actress, fresh from the success of Chalte Chalte, will probably star with Hollywood actor Ben Affleck in avant garde director Dev Benegal's latest venture ? a romantic comedy in English titled Bombay California, which has three characters ? a man, a woman and an Ambassador car! "JLo (whose marriage to Affleck was postponed recently) had better watch out," laughs Benegal. Both Ben Affleck and Ethan Hawke have consented to act in the film, but it is Affleck who is more likely to be Rani's co-star.
"She (JLo) can keep Ben," grins Rani. I only want one thing from Affleck. I want to meet JLo. I am a big fan of hers."
