Atlanta Dance Groups Win in National Competition

Two dance groups from Atlanta won top honors at the 22nd Annual FOGANA 2002 National Dance Competition held on Sunday, September 1 in Kansas City.

Participants from the Gujarati Samaj of Atlanta were awarded First Place in the Junior Garba category. Cast members appear below.

Choreographers: Siddhi Patel, Hetal Patel Group Manager: Varshaben Patel Participants: Shivany Bhakta, Roshni Devlia, Shivani Gandhi, Tiffany Kotak, Elisse Mahe, Karishma Patel, Khyati Patel, Paris Patel, Pyiya Patel, Sabrina Patel, Sonya Patel, Tulsi Patel.

In the Senior Garba category, the following participants from Chh Gam Patidar Samaj of Atlanta were awarded Second Place.

Choreographers: Siddhi Patel, Hetal Patel Participants: Hetal Patel, Isha Patel, Jagu Patel, Jeepsi Patel, Kanal Patel, Riddhi Patel, Rima Patel, Rupal Patel, Siddhi Patel, Tejal Patel FOGANA is the Federation of Gujarati Associations of North America.

Since 1980, it has organized dance competitions at both the national and the regional levels. Both Atlanta dance groups won first place honors representing Georgia at the regional competition in Charlotte, North Carolina two months ago.

Atlanta will host the 2003 FOGANA Regional Competition next spring.
