Indian American Scholarship Fund honors five valedictorians
On May 18th, the Indian American Scholarship Fund (IASF) of IACA held its 16th annual high school graduation banquet honoring the ‘Class of 2008’ at the Northeast Hilton on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. The banquet was attended by over 60 graduating seniors and 200 guests, parents, and donors. This year’s class was highly accomplished with five valedictorians, average SAT scores of approximately 1900, two perfect ACTs, and accomplished musicians, actors and athletes.
The banquet started with Dr. Suvrat Bhargave, the IASF chairman, welcoming everyone. Mr. Surinder Bahl, the IACA president, then addressed the class of 2008. Dr. Anuj Manocha and Mr. Rajesh Kurup explained the scholarship selection process and highlighted the class of 2008. This was followed by the presentation of the class of 2008 and the scholarships.
There were 19 scholarships awarded with five 4-year scholarships. In total, approximately $30,000 was awarded to the high school seniors. The scholarships were presented by the rest of the IASF committee which includes Ibrez Bandukwala, Naveen Dittakavi, Wab Kadaba, Ritu Lohtia, Bindu Manocha, Sangeeta Mayur, and Sujata Suber.
The banquet highlighted the community’s dedication to education and supported those families in financial need. In addition to the scholarship ceremony, the banquet also featured a “college room” with college students from the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University and Emory University to answer any questions and guide the high school seniors.
