Paint It Gold helps pediatric cancer patients and families in India
A unique painting event was held at the Kids Steam Academy in Alpharetta, Georgia on Sunday November 11, 2018 as a fundraiser for Access Life America. People from various communities, age groups, and abilities came together to paint with one common goal in mind: to fight childhood cancer. This was the first such fun-filled activity organized by the Access Life America team; it was begun by Indira Dhandapani and Govind Narassah.
Every day thousands of families from little towns, villages, and remote corners of India bring their children to Mumbai with a hope that someone will help solve the major problem of their lives—cancer. There they find another problem—“No place to stay.” Many end up on a footpath or pay dearly for unhygienic accommodation. Access Life America is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization helping these children and their families by providing hygienic accommodation in Mumbai during their battle against cancer.

So on a relaxing Sunday afternoon, participants arrived in anticipation of producing their masterpiece. There was a combination of talents in the room, from novice to artists. The event began with a welcome speech from Priya Balaji, owner of Kids Steam Academy, about the purpose of the event, Access Life America, and the kids with cancer. The artists-to-be took their seats, and the event began with instruction from Govind Narassah and Priya Balaji. Everyone was glued to their seats with focus and determination to finish his or her masterpiece. As the instructors walked through step by step to complete the painting, beautiful work was emerging from our budding artists. Each painting was unique, since everyone in the room had a different style and effect, and their own version of the painting. In the end, there were beaming faces and people taking selfies with their paintings, proud of both their accomplishment of doing something in their own way and of sending the proceeds of the event to Access Life America. How cool is that?
