‘Samosas and Chai’ offer networking and learning opportunities for businesses

Sony Shivdasani, Financial Representative at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, and Randal Espey of the Espey Financial Group with GIACC 2012 President Cynthia Currence and 2011 President Danielle Fernandes.

‘Samosas and Chai’ are small, informal networking events organized by the Georgia Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. The August 15, 2012 event was sponsored by the Espey Financial Group and held at their Financial Services practice in Johns Creek, and so was an opportune time for members and guests not only to meet fellow businesspeople for their own business connections, and to hear the latest developments in trade between India and the United States—Georgia, in particular, but also this time to investigate insurance and investment products.

Among those who spoke at the event was Narsi Narasimhan, a past president of GIACC, who introduced current president Cynthia Currence. Ms. Currence, a management consultant for nonprofits and founder of Currence & Associates LLC, welcomed everyone and spoke about the commitment of GIACC to enhance opportunities between India and the U.S.

Then last year’s GIACC president Danielle Fernandes, Director of Emerging Markets Development at Equifax, spoke about GIACC’s efforts to bring trade delegations from India to the U.S., and GIACC’s goal of providing the delegations with necessary assistance and exposure. One such delegation that they will be hosting, the Andhra Pradesh business delegation, will be coming from Chennai and will be led by Mr. D.V. Venkatagiri from Indousabiz.com, and by his counterpart in the U.S., Mr. Claus Boelter, from TransAtlantic Sales.

Mr. Randal Espey, President and CEO of the Espey Financial Group, and his wife Kim Espey were gracious hosts. Formerly a teacher helping autistic children, Kim Espey is also an artist whose paintings adorn the offices of EFG. Mr. Espey has been working in the finance industry for 30 years and set up his firm in 2006.

Talking about his company, Mr. Espey said that they focus on helping Financial Professionals best meet the needs of their clients. The range of their services includes Business Insurance Planning, Wealth Accumulation and Distribution Planning, Retirement Planning, Estate Planning, Personal Financial Planning and Employee Benefits. Securities products and services are offered through Guardian Life Insurance Company of America.

Apart from their website’s list of Resources and Frequently Asked Questions that are useful to clients as well as financial professionals, an interesting tool that they provide for strategic personal and business planning is a fully automated planning tool called the “Living Balance Sheet” for every client. This “Living Balance Sheet” personal webpage provides the client with the most current asset values and balances protection needs with assets, liabilities, and net worth interfacing with client cash flow requirements for both personal and business financial plans.

The event being held on the 15th of August, there were many cheers for Indian Independence Day.
