Kruti Dance Academy, comprising of a team of skilled instructors and dancers, delivered a magnificent 13th Annual Dance Recital at the prestigious Atlanta Symphony Hall. With an auditorium filled to capacity with proud parents, grandparents and friends, the show proceeded without a glitch. The attentive audience sometimes erupted in thunderous applause and at times watched in silent awe as the dancers sailed through each performance.
Students, from the youngest to the most senior, performed the intricate movements of Bharathanatyam and Classical Fusion with poise and fluidity. The students were decked with the classical temple costumes, hair, makeup and jewelry.
As in past recitals, the classical fusion dances were performed by more experienced students to heart pounding music that suited the choreography and was further enhanced by the sound of ghungroos stomping in unison.
“Yadeein – Embracing the Past”—the theme of the recital referred to both a classical segment of a dance style that dates back thousands of years, and the timeless Bollywood music from the 1950’s to the present. Each item appeared to be strategically selected to mark the decades and the generations that characterized them. Children danced with gusto to music of their parents’ and grandparents’ generations. The striking Bollywood costumes—colors, styles, and accessories—conveyed “Yaadein”, but with a noticeably modern flair.
Especially endearing, were the youngest Bollywood participants (both boys and girls) who delivered their performances with a refreshingly sassy attitude.
Kruti Dance Academy’s 13th annual dance recital managed to push the envelope on the reputation and expectation that the academy has built over the years.
